Plant cuttings from Margaret

Margaret and her succulent flowers

I visited Margaret today and saw some fantastic succulent flowers. But better than that, Margaret gave me some cuttings. How lucky and I 🙂

Great red succulent flowers at Margaret's place.

Harvesting Garlic

After waiting 8 months since planting my garlic, today was the day of harvest. It was a good year but much of the garlic is splitting due to the wet conditions. This may mean it will not last as long as a usual clove. But that’s farming.

Next may be potatoes and pumpkin.

Numbers of Bushland Birds in decline?

After “the drum” last night Judy and I watched a program about the increase in bushland birds in NSW. Two of the species said to be increasing were Brown Tree creeper and Rufus Whistler. Whilst an increase in a native animal population is good, I would have thought these species were relatively common.

However, at the same time the ABC science on line has covered a problem with Bushland birds in Victoria. See the link

Heres hoping the recent rainfall will make a difference.

Terrick Terrick National Park

Variable Billy-buttons a the Terrick Terrick National Park

I visited the Terrick Terrick National Park this weekend. This is becoming a regular event to help a friend with a research project, (Mark Antos). The project is focusing on the grasslands fauna and in particular, the Plains Wanderer.

Not much is known about Plains Wanderers as they are very hard to see during the day. We generally see them spotlighting. Unfortunately we didn’t see any this weekend.
