Mistletoe on a Buloke

This is a pretty old tree when you think where it has lived and the harsh conditions it has had to deal with, (the Terricks) but then think how old the Mistletoe is.

The two organisms literally live together and add to the biodiversity over many many years.

Just between you and me, it’s not hard to grow pumpkin. But be careful, they could climb into your house and steal your children.

Stay away from the light.

Judy and I stayed at the Warburton hotel last week. It’s a creaky old building with dark wooden fittings and little windows. But when the light comes in, it makes its presence felt.

Eastern Yellow Robins in the Heathland of Braeside Park

We have been Mistnetting at Braeside for around 17 years and in that time we have caught 104 Eastern Yellow Robins and re caught a further 58. Figure 1 shows the average number of new Eastern Yellow Robins we catch each session, (blue) and the red line is the average number of birds caught again, (retraps).

months at a light over the Bar-b-q at the Terricks.

It’s a good season for birds at the Terricks because – it’s a good season for insects. Pity it’s over the Bar-B Q.

Little Button Quail

Mark and I, (and Mark, Russell, Libby and A’s) had a great night at the Terrick’s. No wanderers but a few cute little button quail and a Stubble quail.

Rob working hard, thinking?

A fairly average day mist netting on Sunday. Of the ten birds caught, there were only two species. Results as follows:

6 Superb Fairy Wren

4 White-browed Scrub Wren, one of which was a retrap, (first caught 3 months ago)

The date of the next mist netting session is unknown at this stage. Stay tuned if your interested.
